Once again we’re going to talk about adventure motorcycles but, this time, it’s not going to be a BMW R1200GS, R1250GS, R1300GS, Triumph 1200 Explorer or a Yamaha Super Tenere. Instead, we’re going to talk about KTM and what is being expected from the new 2013/14 models!

As we all know, KTM is presently in the adventure market with the 990 Adventure model but there has been a number of rumours about a new bike, or 2, with a 1090cc and 1290cc engines. Surely, they’re trying to get as close as possible to their competitors. Some say that the present KTM is more fun than any of the other bikes mentioned above but will this stay? Many say that the new 1090cc model, which will replace the 990 Adventure, will still give that fun feeling and should still be a more off-road oriented machine but what about the new 1290?

To begin with, the new 1290 will definitely have a large V-Twin engine, thus there will be an increase in weight. As most of us surely expect is to be more comfortable for long distance travel and, from what has been heard, this is going to be the case. Haven’t heard much with regards to optionals like traction control, electronic suspension adjustments, etc …. but many say that this will be available too.

Who knows when we will see the finalised version of these 2 models? Will they be launched for 2013 or 2014? Considering that BMW has already launched their new 2013 F700GS & F800GS models, KTM might decide to launch, at least, their 1090cc soon and the 1290 at a later stage, maybe when BMW will eventually launch the much awaited GS with the completely new liquid-cooled boxer!

It’s about time! Your other KTMs were too much plastic and looked like her. I’m a Ducati and BMW 1200GS rider. Rode for 45 years and always wanted a KTM, but they didn’t have it together. Finally, it looks like they have it! They will sell like hell and I will buy one too! 2014 is too late to get in the market. Look at Triumph, Ducati, etc …. and most of all the King of them all, the BMW GS! So really KTM, there’s a large market out there, don’t let it slip away, make it now and not wait until 2014!

    It surely looks beautiful!
