Tunisia is definitely one of those countries that are of great interest to bikers, with it’s history, culture, architecture and, last but not least, the desert. TempoPermettendo Turismo is again organising a tour to this incredible country, a 7 night expedition starting from the 20th of April for those who will leave from Rome and from the 21st from Palermo. The itinerary will include something of everything, Roman remains , fields of palms and salted rivers, sea and desert. The south, with its mountains and the dunes of the Sahara is probably the bst part of this tour!
Even though the exact itinerary is not yet confirmed, the tour should begin with a stop in Hammamet, for the night, after the ferry crossing from Palermo. The 1st full day will take you to Kairouan, the 4th holy city of Islam, Sbeitla and its archeological Roman park & Gasfa, where it’s planned to spend the night.
The 2nd day will begin with a visit to Mides, Tamerza & Chebika. After that you’ll head to Tozeur, where we will check-in to our new hotel. During the afternoon there’s an excursion planned to Ong El Jemel. Bikes will be left at the hotel and proceed with 4×4 vehicles. During the excursion, there will even be the opportunity to see the sunset in Nefta.
The 3rd day will begin with the crossing of salted river heading for Douz, the entrance of the desert. On the way to Ksar Ghilane, you will also have the opportunity to try out some quad bikes and visit some other Roman remains. The night will be passed in one of the more luxury tents in the middle of the desert.
The 4th and 5th day will take you to Zammour, Tataouine, where you will stop for the night, Chenin, Douiret & Matmata, where you will spend the 5th night. Throughout the 3rd and 4th day, the route that will be taken will take you though some great places where the film Star Wars was filmed.
Off to visit El Jem, Monastir, Sousse & Port El Kantaoui on the 6th day and this then leaves us with just another day to enjoy this beautiful country. The last day will take you to Cartagine, Sidi Bou Said & the final stop will be Tunis. Here is the place from where to ake the ferry back to Palermo.
In total, this tour should cover approx 1600km from North to South. The tour seems very interesting but some wonder whether Tunisia is again safe! I’m sure that there’s a number of you out there hoping the situation will get better soon as to enjoy this and some other great motorcycle expeditions in Tunisia, a great coutry!
