How many times we tend to do our own repairs on a motorcycle? Is it safe? Should we do this? Doing stuff on a car is one thing, doing it on a motorcycle is a completely different thing! Bikes are more dangerous and the possibility to get hurt cause of a small mistake is so real! Might be interesting to know what just happened last month, on a highway in Germany, cause of some DIY Motorcycle Repairs!
A group of friends, who were on the A8 highway going from Renania towards home, Germersheim, experienced the unexpected! The back wheel of an old but solid 2001 BMW R1150GS went off, throwing off the biker, of 58yrs, and the pillion, of 56! The 2 are in serious condition but, luckily enough, not in danger of dying! From what has been witnessed by their own friends behind them, the bike began seriously playing from the back, all of a sudden lost the rear wheel, threw them both on the floor and came to a complete stop after crashing! Luckily enough no other no other vehicle was involved in this accident!
The police had to close the highway and, after giving the support to the rider and pillion, immediately began their investigation. From the initial investigation, they figured out this was 
due to some DIY Motorcycle Repairs! After inspecting whatever remained from the back wheel and the final drive, they immediately realised that 3 out of the 4 bolts holding the wheel were missing while the 4th one was literally split in 2! Seems like the rider had just finished off doing some maintenance work to his own bike couple of weeks before!
It is surely nice, rewarding and saves loads of money to do all by yourself but is it really worth it? It’s important that, if you do so, you’re sure about what your’re doing, especially if you’re playing around with the brakes, wheels, the final drive, etc …. and always check out whatever works you’ve done by someone professional you trust! Definitely it’s not worth playing around with your own safety!
