I’m going to try to make this post a little bit different than the usual ones today and am going to let you share the experience/s every single one of you had when touring in South Africa. When looking at Africa on a map one will see that it’s quite a huge continent and there’s loads of places to visit but would like to focus on the south for this time.
Since most of the readers are from Europe and the US, I would like to hear about everything from you, starting even from planning a trip, roads route, first aid kits you took with you, the transportation of your motorbike, duration of your stay, any motor clubs you’ve went with (if applicable), the kind of bike used, etc ….. etc …. It’s amazing the number of BMW R1200GS bikes that are around for such trips! Well, for sure they’re one of the best motorcycles around 😛
There are a number of motorbikes tours nowadays and, definitely, choice is not a problem! But, you, who have done this before, what were those things that you thought to experience and didn’t find there, what were those things that you though you might not need of but you needed them, what never passed from your mind that you might better think of this before? There’s infinite questions and am sure there’s infinite answers too. What’s best other than sharing such experiences together, relive our memories and let the others feel what we’ve felt, and still feeling, of that experience we had in our life?
I can easily look for some details about preparations, routes etc …. online but I’m after real experiences. The must do / must take / must think of things can be read by everyone and found everywhere but the real life experiences you can only get them from the person that has passed from it and everyone lives each experience in a different way, thus am convinced there will be a number of different ones for the same route and even trip!

Great idea people, I have ridden down the west and east coast from London, my advice is take less as you can always find an answer on the road. There are great places to source information from camp sites to mechanics. I believe in overlanding. I have opened a campsite, storage, shipping service in Gordon’s Bay near to Cape town.
